Are your teeth making you sick?

Root canals have become a common practice among mainstream dentists and are often promoted as the best or only solution to dental issues. However, in the last couple of years root canals have become a topic of conversation – especially for a dentist that takes a more holistic or biological approach to proactively and reactively responding to dental concerns.

What is most important to know is that teeth are like other organ systems in your body in that they also require a blood supply, lymphatic and venous drainage, and nervous innervations. Root canals, however, are dead teeth, and these dead teeth typically become one of, if not the worst, sources of chronic bacterial toxicity in your body. If any of the organs in your body die, like a liver or kidney, they need to be removed but dead teeth are commonly just left in the body. A root cancel removes the nerve from the main canal but does not address any side cancels where bacteria can thrive. The toxicity living that those canals can spread throughout your body and can lead to a plethora of diseases and dysfunction in your body.

A recent study by Dr. Jerry Tennant, MD, showed that out of the 60% of the cancer patients he saw in his practice, 96% of them had a root canal. Here’s an example of what we often see; on a quest for optimal health, a woman with a history of breast cancer visits a holistic dentist as part of her overall treatment routine. The dentist checks an upper left bicuspid (premolar) and finds out that the tooth has undergone a root canal, leaving behind a dead tooth. Because it is on the same meridian as the affected breast, the flow of energy has become obstructed. The tooth is extracted, the site is treated, and the patient’s breast cancer goes into remission – an all-too-common scenario that we hear about in our thermography practice.

With cancer patients, we often see hot spots in the jaw on the same side of the malignant breast. The upper side of the jaw, the last two molars, and bicuspids on the affected side often show breast cancer on that specific side. Usually, we see this on the left side. It’s quite fascinating when we see a trail of “heat” from the jaw to the breast in both men and women on the affected side. If you’ve had breast cancer on the left side and you have metal amalgams or root canals, I would love to chat with you about your dental health!

An integrative oncologist that I recently spoke with said that when the body is fighting one of these infections it can burden 60% of your immune system. Do you often get sore throats, thyroid symptoms, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, sinus infections, or earaches? Your teeth are connected to your meridian system, lymphatic system, autonomic nervous system, and many other organs. Most people have no idea that their teeth can be the root cause of these issues. Root canals are bacteria condos, and they all eventually abscess.

So, what should you do if you think that you might have an infection? Schedule a visit with a biological dentist who will likely do a three-dimensional x-ray. It’s called a cone beam, CT scan. Ask questions and find out what the best treatment plant looks like for you. If you have had a root canal but don’t currently have an infection – my holistic dentist said just to leave it alone!

There are plenty of studies linking all sorts of medical conditions to root canal teeth, but dentists still carry out millions of root canal procedures each year. I encourage anyone who suspects that they have a health problem because of their teeth to see a biological dentist determine whether treatment may be beneficial.
